Today’s schools face enormous challenges. In response to an increasingly complex society and rapidly changing technology, schools are being asked to educate the students to higher academic standards than ever before. This means teaching methods cannot be - teacher-centered, as is the case with traditional Soviet instruction. Instead, teaching should be focused on the child.
During the Soviet era, teachers went through capacity-building courses every three and five years. However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union remote areas fell behind. The government, short on funds and unable to pay close attention to some of the more remote regions, struggled to upload the requirement and trainings. Therefore, CAIT took the initiative to conduct capacity-building training for the teachers from the remote areas of GBAO. Since 2014 CAIT has trained 116 teachers of English, Russian, computer science, math, physics and chemistry.

The main tasks of capacity building training are:
First of all, teachers need to understand subject matter deeply and be flexible so that they can help students create useful cognitive maps, relates ideas to one another, and address misconceptions. Teachers need to see how ideas connect across fields and to everyday life.
- Teachers need to know about curriculum resources and technologies to connect their students with sources of information and knowledge that allows them to explore ideas, acquire and synthesize information, and frame and solve problems.
