Kindergarten №5 in Khorog was built in the 1980s. There are 13 classes and 280 children at the kindergarten every year. The number of teachers is 26 (13-teachers and 13-assistants). The kindergarten was in poor condition before Central Asia Institute Tajikistan got involved. The toilets had a terrible smell that made it difficult to breathe. The condition of the facility created an environment that was not conducive for teaching or learning. Because of the bad conditions some parents did not want to bring their children to this school.

In 2014, CAIT started to refurbish the kindergarten, including:

- Repairs of toilets
- Kitchen repairs
- The sewerage system was totally changed
- The old windows were changed into new plastic windows
The toilets, kitchen, and windows now meet building standards. The children are happy to have toilets, basins for washing their hands, new kitchen sinks, and hot water. After restorations were complete, the number of children enrolled has increased.
